SOLD - American Sterling Silver Hip Flask - Antique Circa 1910

SKU: A3872

A fine and impressive, large antique American sterling silver pint hip flask; an addition to our silverware collection

Description

This fine antique American sterling silver hip flask has a plain rectangular form with rounded corners.

This flask has a subtly curved form proffering a comfortable fit in the majority of pockets.

The surface of the flask is plain and unembellished.

This impressive antique silver hip flask is fitted with a plain domed hinged bayonet cover.

This hip flask bears the capacity marker 'CAP.1PT.' in addition to the American hallmarks; 1 American pint is the equivalent to 0.83 Imperial pint

The hallmarks to the lower portion of this impressive flask include:

Maker's mark: RBS (R. Blackinton & Co.)

Silver quality/purity mark: Sterling (.925, 925/1000, sterling silver)

This flask has been tested and is water tight.

To ensure the flask remains water tight, the cork should be moist and therefore fully expanded to provide an effective seal.

There are two recommended methods to ensure the cork does not dry out and shrink:

Method One: Keep fluid in the flask at all times, and keep the flask on its side to ensure the cork remains wet.

Method Two: Fill the flask to the brim with fluid and close. Leave it like this over night, or 24 hours if possible, before use.

Condition

This American sterling silver hip flask is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent condition.

The antique silver hip flask has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the hip flask are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this antique American silverware.
