An exceptional and impressive antique William III English Britannia silver tazza; part of our dining silverware collection

Description

This exceptional antique William III English Britannia* silver tazza has a plain circular form onto the original cylindrical spreading foot.

The surface of the tazza is plain and unembellished.

This impressive tazza has a slightly flared rim ornamented with significant embossed diagonal gadroon decoration.

The foot is encircled with a further band of embossed gadroon decoration.

* Britannia Silver - The Britannia silver standard of 958 (95.84% of fine silver), denoted by the icon of the seated Britannia holding an oval shield, was introduced by William III in 1697. This was to indicate the slightly higher standard of silver from sterling silver standard of 925 (92.5% of fine silver).

Condition

This antique tazza is a very good example of its type and in fine condition.

The hallmarks, including the Britannia standard mark, struck to the surface are as clear as you could hope to find.

Part hallmarks are struck the foot, as to be expected; these are also clear.

Reflections in photography may detract from the true representation of this example of antique silverware.
