A fine antique Victorian cut glass claret jug with sterling silver mount; part of our silverware collection

Description

This fine claret jug has a cylindrical neck onto an ovoid body onto a circular cut glass foot.

There is a scene depicting Roman troops on chariots acid etched to the body of the jug.

The claret jug has a hallmarked sterling silver mount with bright cut engraved decoration incorporating a vacant cartouche to the front.

The mount is further embellished with bead decorated borders.

The mount is fitted with a hallmarked hinged cover with a silver eagle finial.

The jug is fitted with a silver handle ornamented with rope twist decoration.

Condition

This claret jug has a very good gauge of silver mount, and the entire jug is very good quality.

The glass is in excellent and perfect condition.

The bright cut engraved decoration to the silver mount is very crisp, and the hallmarks very clear.
