A fine, impressive and unusual antique George V English cut glass and sterling silver mounted locking decanter; an addition to our sterling silver lounge collection Description
This fine antique George V cut glass and sterling silver mounted decanter has a square shaped rounded tapering form.
The impressive decanter has a plain hallmarked sterling silver collar incorporating a fully working locking mechanism which retains the removable key*.
This antique decanter is fitted with the original rounded cut glass stopper with a bayonet style sterling silver fitment; once the stopper is removed it is placed back over a catch and loop to lock into place.
The body of this cut glass decanter is embellished with a diamond design in addition to a star cut base.
*This locakable sterling silver collar and mortice is a noteworthy feature. John Grinsell and Sons created many high quality sterling silver mounted items. Grinsell patented the 'Sesame' lock up liquor stand, and the device on this decanter may be a variation of this unique locking system.
