A fine antique Dutch silver gallery tray; part of our silverware collection

Description

This fine Dutch silver gallery tray has an oval plain form.

The pierced gallery of vertical pales is embellished with connecting pierced circles.

The gallery increases in depth at either end of the tray incorporating two oval inset handles and pierced scrolling leaf decoration.

The handles and rim of the tray have thread decorated borders.

This fine example of Dutch silverware is crafted in a rare style for its type.

The hallmarks struck to this fine gallery tray include:

Silver quality/purity mark:Lion Passant .833 standard silver

Date mark: I (1868)

Maker's mark M below a mullet (untraced)

Additional marks: PdeMEYER t'es HAGE (P de Meyer, The Hague, Netherlands)

Condition

This tray is a very good gauge of silver.

It is very good quality in keeping with this type of tray.

The tray is in excellent condition in keeping with its age. A few surface blemishes are visible, but the tray is in very presentable condition.
