This fine vintage sterling silver tantalus has a rectangular plain form onto four bracket style feet.
The silver frame is embellished with applied cast pierced decorated stylised scroll and leaf designs.
The frame has turned baluster shaped supports to each corner.
The upper portion of the Italian silver frame has a rounded spreading form with a hinged locking* cover surmounted with a shaped carrying handle.
The handle is embellished with applied cast shell and scroll decoration accented with shell decorated terminals.
The tantalus retains the original square cut glass decanters fitted with original cut glass stoppers.
The hallmarks struck to the surface of this impressive tantalus include:
Maker's mark: 1 AL (A.Cesa S.C**)
Silver quality/purity mark: .800 (800/1000)
* The locking mechanism is fully working and retains the original removable key.
**A.Cesa was the first silversmith in Alessandria to register on the 25/03/1935, he was given the number 1 as his makers mark.
Condition
The frame is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent presentation condition.
The decoration to the tantalus is very sharp.
Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the frame are all very clear.
