A very fine antique Georgian Newcastle sterling silver coffee pot; part of our silverware collection

Description

This George II English sterling silver coffee pot is of tapering cylindrical form onto a spreading foot.

The hinged domed cover is fitted with a cast sterling silver finial.

The swan necked spout has embossed acanthus leaf decoration.

The shaped spout socket is bordered with a ahaped, scroll decorated design.

To one side of the body there is an ornate contemporary engraved coat of arms.

The coffee pot is fitted with a beautifuly shaped carved pear wood handle into scroll decorated silver sockets.

The handle sockets are bordered by embossed and chased entwined leaf design decoration to the body of the coffee pot.

Condition

This very fine coffee pot is an extremely good gauge of silver and has a good colour.

It is in excellent condition and has clear hallmarks.

The chased and embossed decoration is crisp and sharp.

This provincial-made coffee pot is a fine example of its type.

Although the maker's mark has been omitted, it may be surmised that this piece was made by the well recognised Newcastle silversmith Isaac Cookson.
