A fine antique Russian silver basket; part of our silverware collection

Description

This fine antique Russian silver basket has a circular form on to a circular spreading foot.

The surface of the basket is embellished with a fairly stylised bright cut engraved decorated motif to one side.

The design incorporates an oval cartouche which displays an engraved monogram.

The basket if fitted with a plain, hallmarked swing handle.

The hallmarks include the kokoshnik mark which incorporates the 84 zolotniki standard (equivalent standard to .875 silver), the woman's head, and the assayer's initials, in addition to the maker's mark.

Condition

This antique Russian silver basket is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent condition.

The engraved decoration is very sharp.

Hallmarks struck to the underside, rim, swing handle and mounts are all clear apart from the maker's mark which is partially rubbed.
