This fine antique George V English 9ct yellow gold sovereign case has a subtly domed circular rounded form.

The surface of this piece is embellished with fine intertwined scrolling leaf bright cut engraved decoration.

The plain circular cartouche to the centre of one face is ornamented with the contemproary engraved monogram 'ES' above the date '1918'.

This case is fitted with a spring loaded catch to the bow, which when depressed releases the hinged cover revealing a hallmarked spring loaded sovereign holder embellished with engine turned decoration.

The hallmarks struck to the interior of this impressive sovereign case include:

Maker’s mark: ALD (Aaron Lufkin Dennison*)

Gold quality/purity marks: 9, .375 (9 carat gold)

Assay mark: Anchor (Birmingham, England)

Date mark: l (1910)

*NOTE: ALD - Aaron Lufkin Dennison (1812-1895). In 1862 Dennison moved to England from the USA and later set up a watch case manufactory in Birmingham which became the Dennison Watch Case Company.

Date: 1910

This antique sovereign case is a very good gauge of gold, fine quality and in excellent presentation condition.

The bright cut engraved decoration and monogram are very crisp.

Full hallmarks struck to the interior of the cover and part hallmarks to the sovereign holder are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this antique gold piece.
