This exceptional antique American silver coin teapot has a circular compressed form onto a circular spreading foot.

The body of this fine example of American teaware is embellished with chased floral and scroll decoration on a matte background incorporating a shaped vacant cartouche to one side, accented with Rubenesque figures.

The decoration to the body is further accented with a scroll bordered design depicting three youthful figures eating from a grape basket.

The flared rim of the teapot is ornamented with a shaped applied and pierced floral and scroll decorated border.

This antique teapot is fitted with a hinged domed hallmarked cover encircled with further chased floral ornamentation above a scrolling border.

The cover is surmounted with a hallmarked fine and impressive silver finial depicting an Asian figure in traditional attire.

The teapot retains the original carved ivory handle incorporating a fine scrolling acanthus leaf thumbpiece with a fine and impressive silver upper socket depicting a chased animal’s face and jaw.

The impressive swan necked spout is ornamented with a chased scrolling leaf decoration with further figural ornamentation to the lower portion of the underside.

This fine teapot is supported by a shaped circular spreading foot encircled with chased floral and scroll decoration.

Maker’s mark: Jones Lows & Ball*

Silver quality/purity mark: Pure Silver Coin (900/1000)**

City mark: Boston (United States of America)

* Jones Lows & Ball were only registered between the dates of 1839 and 1846, determining the date of this piece as circa 1840

** American silver coin was used until 1868, when the United States proceeded to use sterling silver (.925). There was no enforced standard for silver coin and it varies from .835 to .925 of silver; this teapot has been professionally tested and is crafted in 90% (.900) silver and 10% copper.

The chased decoration to this piece is very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the teapot are all very clear.
