Description

This fine antique George III sterling silver soup ladle has an Irish turned-over/hook-ended* handle.

The anterior surface of the handle of this Georgian silver ladle is embellished with impressive flat engraved stylised opposing scrolling leaf decoration accented with a vacant cartouche to the terminal.

This fine example of antique flatware has an impressive shell shaped bowl.

The ladle is ornamented with a flat engraved shell decorated heel to the reverse of the bowl.

* This feature is a distinctive characteristic of Irish silver serving pieces in the eighteenth century. As the name suggests the end of the stem/handle turns back to allow the piece to be suspended securely.

Date: 1765

Condition

This antique Georgian silver ladle is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in excellent condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the reverse of the stem are all very clear; the hallmarks are deeply struck due to the exceptional gauge of silver.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of dining silverware.
