Description

These fine antique Austro-Hungarian silver five light candelabra have a baluster and knopped shaped form to a bell shaped spreading base.

Each impressive candelabrum retains the original hallmarked detachable push fit scrolling arms, which supports five baluster shaped capitals with hallmarked shaped drip pans.

The arms are embellished with impressive embossed and chased scrolling leaf decoration accented with ribbed knops.

The central column of the each candelabrum is ornamented with scrolling leaf and floral designs with further ribbed knops.

These antique candelabra can be used as candlesticks once the arms are removed.

One side of each base incorporates an impressive scroll bordered cartouche with a central applied plaque depicting a coat of arms of an escutcheon party per pale charged with three fleur de lys, below a crowned helmet crested by three banners.

The base of each is further ornamented with a band of scroll and trellis decoration below scrolling leaf motifs.

The bases of these candelabra / candlesticks are not weighted.

The hallmarks struck to the surface of these impressive candelabra include:

Dianakopf mark: cinquefoil shape (purity .800 standard), A (assayed in Vienna)*

Maker’s mark: VCB (Vincenz Carl Dub - strong probability)

* As the Dianakopf mark includes the city of assay the piece was crafted between 1872 -1922. The maker was registered between 1886-1926 determining the date as circa 1900.

Condition

These antique candelabra are a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

The chased and embossed decoration to each piece is very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each base and part hallmarks to the sleeves of each sconce are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these pieces of antique silverware.
