Description


This magnificent pair of antique sterling silver entrée dishes have a rounded rectangular form with incurved corners.


Each dish is fitted with a deep rectangular hallmarked domed cover, surmounted with the original impressive hallmarked leaf and stem decorated detachable handle.


The rim of each dish base and the upper portion of each cover is encompassed with an applied gadroon decorated border.


The cover of both dishes display a bright cut marital coat of arms with unusual fish supporters, a family crest of two arms counter embowed holding an bezant with a bird above, and the motto 'Tyme tryeth troth' - time tests faith*.


Each entrée dish is supported by four bun style feet.


These impressive antique dishes are fine examples of their type.


* The engraved arms commemorate the marriage of Sir John Trevelyan, 5th Baronet of Nettlecombe, Somersetm to Maria Wilson, daughter of Sir Thomas Spencer Wilson, 6th Baronet of East Borne, Sussex.

These magnificent Victorian entree dishes are an exceptional gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent condition.

The dishes show minor surface scratches to the interior of each component, in keeping with age.

The bright cut engraved coat of arms and crest are very crisp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the bases and covers, and part hallmarks to each handle are all very clear in keeping with age.


Reflections in photography may detract from the true representation of these examples of Victorian silverware.
