Description


This fine composite pair of antique Victorian sterling silver plates has a pentafoil shaped form.


The circular well of each plate is plain and unembellished.


The raised borders are encircled with fine and impressive embossed and chased interlacing stylised leaf designs accented with alternating floral motifs.


The rim of each plate is ornamented with an applied reed decorated border accented with laurel leaf designs.


Each plate bears the retailer’s mark ‘Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company, 112 Regent St’ to the underside.


This impressive composite pair, crafted by William Gibson & John Lawrence Langman of Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co, bear different date letters; one was crafted in 1893 and the other in 1896.

Condition


These sterling silver Victorian plates are an exceptional gauge of silver, fine quality and exceptional presentation condition.

The embossed and chased decoration is very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of each plate are all very clear.


Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these pieces of antique Victorian silverware.
