Description


This exceptional antique Russian silver box has a rounded rectangular shaped form.


The surface of the box is embellished with fine and impressive niello enamel depicting a simplified floral and scrolling leaf design.


The box is fitted with a hallmarked hinged cover with a shaped silver thumbpiece.


The interior of this antique box retains the original gilding.


The hallmarks struck to the interior of this impressive box include:

Maker's mark: ПВ (BA)

Assay mark: А.К 1851 (Andrey Antonovich Kovalsky/Андрей Антонович Ковалский)

Silver quality/purity mark: 84 (84 zolotniks*)

City Mark: St George slaying the dragon (Moscow, Russia)


This impressive antique Russian silver box is an exceptional example of its type.


* 84 zolotniki is equivalent to 875/1000 or .875 standard silver

This antique Russian silver box is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The niello enamel is in perfect condition.
