Description


This exceptional antique George V Scottish sterling silver four piece tea service/set consists of a spirit kettle, teapot, cream jug and sugar bowl.


Each piece of this service has a plain circular rounded form.


The upper rim of each piece is encircled with a band of chased Lindisfarne/Celtic style interlacing and bead ornamentation to the upper rim.


The spirit kettle and teapot are fitted with hallmarked domed hinged covers, which retain the original fibre and sterling silver topped finials, all in the Lindisfarne style.


The teapot is fitted with the original fibre C scroll handle with plain sterling silver cylindrical collar style sockets encircled with chased decorated woven Celtic style designs.


The spirit kettle retains the original fibre plain shaped handpiece with identical silver sockets to that of the teapot in addition to chased bead ornamented terminals.


The fine and impressive kettle is supported on the original hallmarked four-legged stand incorporating the original detachable spirit burner.


The stand is ornamented with a further band of Lindisfarne decoration in addition to a large chased bead decoration to the upper portion of each scrolling bifurcating leg and paw style foot.


The teapot, cream jug and sugar bowl are supported by four fine and impressive paw feet with bifurcating scrolling sockets accented with further Lindisfarne style applied and chased decorated bead motifs.


The spirit kettle and teapot have swan necked spouts ornamented with chased bird head designs to the shaped lips.


The cream jug and sugar bowl are fitted with sterling silver C shaped handles with further bird head ornamentation to the upper terminals.


The underside of each piece bears the retailer’s mark ‘Brook & Son, 87 George St, Edinburgh’.


This fine antique sterling silver service is displayed on a silver tea tray for illustrative purposes only - the tray (W8684) may be purchased separately from the AC Silver inventory.

Condition


This antique tea service is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The service has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition.

The applied and chased decoration is very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each piece and the underside of the spirit burner, and part hallmarks to the interior of the covers are all very clear.


Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these pieces of antique silverware.
