Description

This fine antique George III sterling silver tea caddy has a plain oval rounded form onto an oval plain spreading foot.

The body of this piece is embellished with embossed fluted decoration to the lower portion with an applied gadrooned border to the rim.

The tea caddy is fitted with a hallmarked hinged cover ornamented over the domed portion with embossed fluted decoration encircling a vacant oval cartouche.

This fine example of Georgian silverware is fitted at either side with a sterling silver lion mask and loop handle.

The tea caddy retains the original fitted working lock and key; as so often with this type of lock it has been fitted to the interior with lead solder.

Date: 1802

Condition

This antique silver tea caddy is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent presentation condition.

The embossed fluted decoration is very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the tea caddy are very slightly rubbed but legible.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of antique Georgian silverware.
