Description


This antique Victorian sterling silver afternoon tea service consists of a cream jug, a sugar bowl, a pair of sugar tongs and six teaspoons.


The cream jug and sugar bowl have a circular rounded form and ornamented with embossed and chased floral and leaf motifs.


The cream jug is fitted with a figurehead ornamented C scroll handle.


The cream jug and sugar bowl retain the original gilt interior.


Each teaspoon is Old English pattern.


The anterior surfaces of the handle of each teaspoon and the sugar tongs are embellished with bright cut engraved scrolling leaf decoration, accented with star motifs and incorporating a bead bordered vacant oval cartouche.


This Victorian tea service is fitted to the original fine and impressive hinged leatherette box with satin and velvet lined interior, which secures with a push fit catch.


This afternoon tea service was made by the renowned London silversmith Charles Stuart Harris.


Date: 1885

Condition


The pieces of this antique tea service are a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent presentation condition.

The box is in excellent presentation condition in keeping with age.

The decoration to each piece is very sharp and very crisp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the cream jug, the underside of the sugar bowl and the reverse of each spoon handle are all very clear.


Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these pieces of antique Victorian silverware.
