SOLD - Sterling Silver Chamber Candlestick - Antique Victorian

Description

This fine antique Victorian sterling silver taper chamber candlestick (chamberstick) has a plain circular, rounded form onto a plain collet foot.

The cylindrical capital is encircled with bands of applied decoration.

The chamber candlestick retains the original push fit hallmarked sconce and the original detachable hallmarked snuffer.

The snuffer has a conical form and is surmounted by simplified flame style finial.

The wax pan and sconce are encircled with applied gadroon decorated borders to the rims.

This silver chamberstick is fitted with a plain shaped handle with a subtle thumbpiece.

Date: 1846

Condition

This antique chamber candlestick is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent presentation condition.

The applied decoration is very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the collet foot, sleeve of the sconce and surface of the snuffer are all very clear; the maker’s marks show signs of wear in keeping with age and location.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these pieces of Victorian silverware.
