Description

This antique George IV sterling silver chamber candlestick (chamberstick) has a plain circular form.

The subtly domed centre of the plain well is surmounted with a plain cylindrical capital.

The chamber candlestick retains the original detachable hallmarked sconce and the original detachable hallmarked snuffer.

The snuffer has a conical form and is surmounted by a ring loop attachment, securing to the capital with a plain connecting peg and silver belcher style chain.

The wax pan and sconce have impressive applied gadroon decorated borders to the rims.

The chamberstick is fitted with a thread decorated circular fingerpiece style handle surmounted with an oval thumbpiece embellished with a contemporary engraved initial ‘A’ and encompassed by a gadroon decorated border to the rim.

This antique chamber stick was crafted by the collectable and renowned London silversmiths Rebecca Emes & Edward Barnard I.

Date: 1825

Condition

This antique chamber candlestick is a very good gauge of silver, very good quality and in excellent condition.

The applied decoration is very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the wax pan and part hallmarks to the sleeve of the sconce and snuffer are all clear, in keeping with age.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these pieces of antique silverware.
