Description


This impressive antique George III sterling silver cream jug has a helmet shaped form onto a pedestal and circular spreading foot.


The body of the jug is embellished with fine bright cut engraved floral festoons and stylised husk swags accented with circular motifs.


The ornamentation to the front of the jug incorporates a bright cut engraved ribbon bow with scrolling working ends with a bordered rounded escutcheon shaped vacant cartouche suspended below.


The upper portion of both the body and foot is embellished with a bright cut engraved interlacing undulating line border with a band of bead decoration around the rims.


This fine example of Georgian silverware is fitted with an impressive narrow loop handle ornamented with plain applied decoration.


This jug retains the original gilded interior.


Date: 1786

Condition


This antique jug is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent presentation condition.

The bright cut engraved decoration is very crisp.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the jug are all very clear.


Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this antique Georgian silverware.
