SOLD - Sterling Silver ' Golden Pheasant ' Pepper Pot - Antique Edwardian

Description

This fine antique Edwardian sterling silver pepper pot has been realistically modelled in the form of a Golden Pheasant or 'Chinese Pheasant', a gamebird native to western China.

This pheasant displays a distinctive (golden) crest and 'cape' around its head and shoulders, differentiating it from the more ubiquitous 'common' pheasant table ornament.

The pepper pot is embellished with embossed and chased decoration reproducing the realistic detail of the pheasant's feathers.

The hallmarked push fit cover/head features pierced 'pepper' holes.

The pheasant ornament stands on a base realistically modelled in the form of rough grass.

Date: 1902

Condition

This antique pepper pot is a very fine gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent condition.

The embossed and chased decoration is crisp and sharp.

Full hallmarks stuck to the tail and part hallmarks, as expected, struck to the sleeve of the cover are all clear.

Reflections in photography may detract from the true representation of this example of Edwardian silverware.
