SOLD - Sterling Silver Harlequin Sugar Nips - Antique William IV

Description

This fine pair of antique William IV sterling silver sugar nips has been realistically modelled in the form of Harlequin nips*.

The surface is embellished with chased decoration detailing the features of the Harlequin, snakes scales and leaf ornamentation to the nips.

The interior surface of the hallmarked nips bears the engraved initials ‘E.C.R’ to one side, and a crest of a hawk to the other.

* Harlequin nippers take the form of a monkey/masked character dressed in a diamond patterned costume suspended from two coiled snakes, creating the nips handles.

Date: 1832

Condition

These fine antique sugar nips are a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

The chased decoration is very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the interior surface of the nips are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of antique silverware.
