SOLD - Sterling Silver Hunting Horn - Antique George III

Description

This antique George III sterling silver horn has a plain tapering, cylindrical form with a flared rim.

This fine horn is fitted with a cast sterling silver mouthpiece, embellished with bands of chased decoration.

There is a contemporary engraved inscription to the handpiece which displays the phrase 'Percival Maker St James's Str. Opposite the PALACE LONDON'.

There is a contemporary engraved crest to the body of the horn, displaying a martlet erect.

Date: 1817

Condition

This antique hunting horn is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in very good condition in keeping with age.

The rim is slightly uneven and shows signs of a long standing repair to the interior.

Although the horn has been repaired it has been included in the AC Silver inventory, as the opportunity to find such items in sterling silver is very limited.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the horn are all slightly rubbed but legible.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of Georgian silverware.
