This fine tankard has a plain cylindrical form with slightly tapering sides to a tooled decorated domed foot.

The tankard has applied molding at the lip.

The tankard is fitted with an impressive S scroll handle with a shield shaped tail.

The hallmarked raised double-stepped cover has an impressive three-part hinge and cast corkscrew thumbpiece with engraved decoration to the reverse.

The cover has a broad lip, serrated and pointed at the front, and a narrow applied bezel.

The circular base is inset.

Date: 1696

This fine original tankard is an extremely good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent condition in keeping with is age.

This type of tankard was never finished perfectly i.e. at the base of the thumbpiece, underside of the base, and interior of the base. This tankard reflects the 'original' condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface and cover, and the maker's mark as expected, to the handle, are in keeping with the age of the tankard but very good and legible.

Reflections in photography may detract from the true representation of this item.
