Description

This fine antique George V sterling silver soap/tobacco box has an oval rounded form.

The surface of this silver soap box is embellished with fine and impressive engine turned decoration incorporating a circular cartouche to the cover.

The cartouche is embellished with a contemporary bright cut engraved ducal coronet above the monogrammed initials ‘RMC’.

The hallmarked hinged cover and base are each fitted with a plain rounded thumbpiece to the anterior edge.

This antique soap box opens to reveal the original gilded interior.

This impressive box was crafted in the same style and in the same year as the travelling inkwell A1758; they would sit very well together.

Date: 1920

Condition

This antique sterling silver soap box is an excellent gauge of silver, excellent quality and in excellent condition.

The interior has some minor blemishes and discolouration to the gilding.

The engine turned decoration is very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the rim and part hallmarks to the interior of the cover are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of antique silverware.
