Description


This fine antique George III English sterling silver sugar bowl has an oval boat shaped form with concave corners onto a swept oval pedestal to a rectangular base.


The surface of this piece is embellished with fine and impressive bright cut engraved borders accented with floral quatrefoil motifs.


Two bright cut engraved shaped escutcheon cartouches ornament the surface, to one side displaying a hawk belled and the other remaining vacant.


Each cartouche overlies a textured background, bordered by bright cut engraved floral wreath decoration.


The rim of this piece has an applied thread decorated border.


This Georgian bowl is fitted with two applied thread decorated scrolling handles to either end.


This bowl retains the original gilt interior.


Date: 1792

Condition


This sterling silver piece is an exceptional gauge of silver, fine quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

The bright cut engraved decoration is very crisp.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the bowl are very clear.


Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of Georgian silverware.
