Description


This fine antique Victorian sterling silver three piece tea set/service consists of a teapot, cream jug and sugar bowl.


The pieces of this Victorian tea set have a circular classical form onto a bead decorated knop to a circular spreading foot.


The body of each piece is ornamented with fine and impressive bright cut engraved floral festoons anchored with alternating floral motifs and applied chased decorated figural masks.


The decoration of the upper portion of each body includes bright cut engraved simplified swags suspended from ribbon bows and incorporating pensile stylised scrolling leaf motifs and two medallion style vacant cartouches.


The lower portion of each component is encircled with bright cut engraved leaf designs and styled pendant drop motifs.

The rim of the teapot, cream jug and sugar bowl are encompassed with an applied bead decorated border.


The teapot is fitted with a hallmarked domed hinged cover encircled with a band of chased stylised Roman leaf ornamentation.


The cover retains the original, impressive sterling silver hallmarked leaf and pine cone style finial.


The teapot, cream jug and sugar bowl are all fitted with impressive C shaped scrolling handles with bifurcating leaf decorated terminals in addition to large single leaf designs which are incorporated into shaped thumbpieces.


The teapot is has a swan necked spout ornamented with large, chased scrolling leaf decoration accented with further leaf decoration around the socket.


The foot of each piece of this impressive Victorian tea set is further embellished with a band of chased Roman leaf decoration.


The cream jug and sugar bowl retain the original gilded interiors.

Condition


The pieces of this fine Victorian three piece tea set are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

The bright cut engraved decoration to each piece is very crisp and the chased decoration is very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the each piece and part hallmarks to the teapot handle and interior of the cover are all very clear.


Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these fine examples of Victorian silverware.
