This magnificent antique George III sterling silver teapot has an oval rounded form onto a rectangular domed foot with rounded corners.

The lower portion of the body, domed foot and cover are embellished with embossed fluted decoration.

The flared shoulders of the teapot are ornamented with an applied gadroon decorated border accented with scrolling leaf motifs to each corner and a simplified design to the centre of each side.

The upper rim of this impressive teapot is embellished with a band of egg and dart decoration.

This fine teapot is fitted with a plain domed flush hinged hallmarked cover which retains the original very impressive carved fluted ivory and silver finial; the flush hinge indicates the fine quality of this piece.

The magnificent carved ivory handle which incorporates a plain thumbpiece, represents the uncoiling body of a snake.

The upper sterling silver socket bifurcates to a symmetrical design illustrating the undulating lower portion of a snake, whereas the lower terminal depicts a snake’s head resting on a socket embellished with a rosette of stylised feathers.

This antique teapot has an impressive flat sided swan necked spout with impressive applied acanthus leaf to the underside and a scrolling palmette design to the anterior surface.

This magnificent teapot is exceptional quality and one of the best examples of its type you may hope to find.

Maker: Unknown
Date: 1818

This antique teapot is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

There is some crazing to ivory finial and handle as expected in keeping with age; this does not affect the integrity of the piece.

Due to their location, the hallmarks struck to the surface show signs of wear, and the first portion of the maker’s mark is rubbed.

The part hallmarks to the interior of the cover are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of Georgian teaware.

Height to top of handle 17.4cm/6.9"

Width 14.3cm/5.6"

Length from back of handle to tip of spout 27.5cm/10.8"
