Description

This fine antique George V sterling silver travelling match striker has a plain square shaped form.

The surface of this silver match striker is embellished with impressive panels of engine turned decoration incorporating a circular cartouche to the cover.

The cartouche is embellished with a contemporary bright cut engraved ducal coronet above the monogrammed initials ‘RMC’.

The underside of the match striker is plain and bears the retailer’s mark ‘Alexr. Clark Co Ltd, London’.

This impressive match striker is fitted with a push fit catch, which when depressed releases the hallmarked hinged cover, revealing the original gilded interior.

The interior of the box has a gilded hinged hallmarked cover which features a waisted fingerpiece and serrated panel/match striker to the anterior surface.

This impressive match striker was crafted by the London silversmith and toilet/dressing set specialist Charles Henry Dumenil.

This impressive piece has the same credetials as the travelling inkwell A1758 and was crafted in the same style and year as the soap box A1757; they would all sit very well together.

Date: 1920

Condition

This antique silver match striker is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The interior has some minor blemishes and discolouration to the gilding.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the box and part hallmarks to the underside of the match striker cover and surface of the box cover are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of antique silverware.
