These fine antique silver vases have a tapering cylindrical form to a domed circular spreading foot.

The upper and lower portions of the each vase are embellished with embossed and chased stylised scrolling leaf and bead decoration in a swirl design.

The body of these impressive vases are each further ornamented with a band of six cartouches amidst a shaped border accented with a leaf motif between each; five of the cartouches remain vacant.

Each vase is ornamented with a bright cut engraved crest of the Durham Light Infantry* amidst the inscription ‘3rd Batt, Durham Light Infantry’ to the remaining cartouche.

The foot of each vase is embellished with the contemporary engraved inscription ‘Officers Race 1890. Presented to the Officers by Lieut H J Sowerby’.

These antique silver vases were crafted in the same style as A2355, these items would sit very well together as a composite set.

* In 1758 General John Lambton of County Durham first raised the 68th Regiment of Foot as part of the British Army. This later amalgamated with another regiment to become the Durham Light Infantry in 1881.

These antique vases are a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent presentation condition.

The embossed and chased decoration to each piece is very sharp.

The bright cut engraved decoration is very crisp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each body are all very clear.
