Description

This fine Edwardian sterling silver inkstand has a rectangular shaped form.

The plain surface of this antique inkstand features a concave pen well to either side.

The Chippendale shaped rim of the stand is embellished with an applied moulded border.

This impressive stand is fitted with the two original detachable hallmarked inkpot receivers; securing to the underside with screw fitting nuts.

The receivers retain the original cut glass ink pots with hallmarked cylindrical silver mounts and each fitted with a hinged hallmarked sterling silver cover.

The cover of each inkpot is embellished with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest depicting an eagle claw winged.

Each cover is further ornamented with an applied moulded border matching the Chippendale style design to that of the stand.

The impressive glass body of the inkpot is embellished with chamfered corners.

The stand is supported by four sterling silver hoof style feet.

This antique silver inkstand was crafted by the renowned and collectable London silversmith Charles Stuart Harris.

Date: 1902

Condition

This antique inkstand is an excellent gauge of silver, excellent quality and in excellent condition.

The stand and mounts have been professionally polished and is in presentation condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the stand and part hallmarks to the receivers and interior of the covers are all very clear; the lower portion of the maker’s mark to the underside of the stand is slightly worn, but remains legible.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of Edwardian silverware.
