This exceptional antique Edwardian tortoiseshell and sterling silver mantel (mantle) clock has a traditional English mantel clock form, reflecting the shape and style typically used in the George III period.

The clock is embellished with tortoiseshell panels and a hallmarked silver frame.

The anterior panel of tortoiseshell is ornamented with fine and impressive scrolling leaf silver piqué posé* work accented with a central quatrefoil motif.

The anterior surface of the body and plinth base are bordered with a fine band of silver inlaid stringing decoration.

Each side of the body of the clock is fitted with a fine and impressive hallmarked arched silver scale motif diaper patterned pierced decorated panel, lined with dark red fabric.

The base of the body is ornamented with tubular silver decoration.

The clock is fitted with a circular silver plate bezel, which is plain and unembellished.

The white enamel clock face is clearly marked with black Roman numerals encircled with a minute marked chapter ring which incorporates black minute numerals denoting each five minutes ie 5, 10, 15.

The face of the clock bears the maker/retailer’s mark ‘E E Denthorne, Liverpool’.

The clock is fitted with black shaped hands.

The silver plated hinged cover to the reverse opens to reveal the original eight-day French movement with winding key.

This exceptional clock is supported by four silver bun style feet.

Clocks incorporating tortoiseshell are rare to the market, especially those in such exceptional condition.

* Piqué posé is the method in which a material, most commonly gold or silver, is used to fill in an engraved design.

Date: 1907

This fine antique mantel clock is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

The tortoiseshell is in perfect condition.

The movement has been professionally serviced, and the clock sold with a twelve month guarantee (after this period assistance with maintenance can be provided if required).

Full hallmarks struck to the front and reverse borders and part hallmarks to the side panels are all very clear.

Reflections in photography may detract from the true representation of this piece of Edwardian silverware.
