This fine ale jug is truly magnificent and impressive.
It has a baluster shaped form onto a circular, chased decorated spreading foot.
There is profuse fine chased decoration to the body of the jug, depicting Bacchanalian scenes incorporating cherub-like figures, vines, goats, mystical fish, floral and foliate designs.
There is a vacant shaped cartouche to one side of the jug bordered by impressive shell and scrolling acanthus leaf chased decoration and a crowned Neptune-like mask to the top.
There is a larger, impressive, chased mask decoration to the spout of the jug.
The jug is fitted with a fine and noteworthy C scroll acanthus leaf decorated handle beautifully embellished with an acanthus leaf thumbpiece.
The interior of the jug is silver gilt.
(Although a wine bottle has been placed next to the ale jug to provide a comparison of size, the images do not convey the true magnificence and dimensions of this piece).
Condition
This magnificent jug is an exceptional gauge of silver, fine quality and in exceptional condition.
The chased decoration is very crisp and sharp.
Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the jug are all very clear.
