This impressive Victorian sterling silver cake / fruit basket has a shaped oval, flared form onto four bracket feet.
The body of this antique basket is embellished with saw-pierced decoration.
The shaped rim of the basket is ornamented with an impressive applied and chased tied wheat sheaf decorated border accented with shell motifs.
This shaped basket is supported by four exceptional large and impressive volute scroll, chased fern decorated bracket style feet.
The basket is fitted with a hallmarked tapering swing handle embellished with a band of chased tied wheat sheaf decoration.
The well of this impressive cake / fruit basket is embellished with a bright cut engraved crest of a falcon abov a significant coat of arms, and the family motto 'Esse Quam Videri' - 'to be rather than to seem'
Condition
This Victorian sterling silver basket is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition.
The chased decoration is very sharp.
The bright cut engraved coat of arms crest is very crisp.
Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the basket and part hallmarks struck to the handle are all very clear.
