A fine antique George V sterling silver boat-shaped bowl; part of our silverware collection

Description

This fine antique George V English sterling silver bowl has an oval rounded boat-shaped form onto an oval domed spreading foot with a four shaped (quatrefoil) bracket style feet.

The shaped border is swept at both ends of the bowl.

The body has a plain girdle which transforms into a scrolling leaf embellishment around the original hallmarked hinged scrolling and acanthus leaf decorated handles at either end of the bowl.

There is applied scroll, acanthus leaf and ball decoration to the border of the foot and to the rim of the bowl.

To the lower portion of the bowl is a round ended strapwork decoration, with alternating bands of 'single' and 'double' designs.

Condition

This impressive antique bowl is an exceptional gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the body, and part hallmarks, as expected, to the hinged handles are all very clear.
