A very good and impressive antique Georgian English sterling silver butter pail; an addition to our diverse silverware collection

Description

This fine antique George III sterling silver butter pail has a plain oval form.

The exterior surface of the body is embellished with bands of tooled decoration.

The rim and base are ornamented with bands of applied thread decoration.

This Georgian butter pail is fitted with two plain bracket style handles.

This antique butter pail has been discreetly patched, this does not detract from its aesthetically pleasing appearance; this uncommon piece has been competitively priced accordingly.

Condition

This Georgian butter pail is a very good gauge of silver, very good quality and in excellent condition.

The pail has a patch to the centre of one side; this practice is used by silversmiths to an area that has thinned over time or due to erasure.

The patch can be seen to the interior of the pail, with faint traces to the exterior surface (see image 8 and video).

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the dish are very clear; the maker’s mark is rubbed.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of Georgian silverware.
