This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver card case has a rectangular shaped form.


The anterior surface of this antique card case is embellished with fine and impressive chased and embossed scrolling leaf and floral decoration on a matt background.


The anterior surface of the case incorporates York Minster* depicted in relief; this is a highly desirable and collectable scene.


The decoration to the reverse of the case incorporates a shaped cartouche displaying the contemporary engraved initial ‘W’.


The shaped sides of this piece are embellished with plain scrolling borders.


This antique silver card case is fitted with a hinged cover ornamented with a continuation of scrolling leaf and foliate designs on a matt background.


The anterior and reverse surfaces of this exceptional case are partially gilded.


This impressive case was crafted by the renowned Birmingham silversmith Nathanial Mills


* The impressive and gothic Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of Saint Peter in York (also known as York Minster) is the second largest cathedral in Northern Europe. With three belled towers and a length of 158 metres, this large cathedral houses stunning and expansive stained glass windows, including 'The Heart of Yorkshire' in the West window.

This Victorian castle top card case is an exceptional gauge of silver for its type.

The case is exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The original gilding has natural wear in keeping with age; the quantity of gilding can be seen clearly in the images.

The chased and embossed decoration is very crisp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the rim are all very clear.


Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of Victorian silverware.
