An exceptional and unusual antique sterling silver christening mug; part of our silverware collection


Description


This antique Victorian sterling silver christening mug has a circular tapering form.


The body of the mug is embellished panels of chased decoration which realistically depicts various woodland flowers and foliage, within a plain applied border.


The upper and lower borders of this antique mug are ornamented with three plain bands of applied decoration.


This antique mug is fitted with a plain C scroll handle.


The handle is ornamented with an unusual spherical thumbpiece.


The mug retains its original gilt interior.


This fine Victorian mug was crafted by the renowned London silversmiths Robert Roskell, Alan Roskell and John Mortimer Hunt.


Condition


This antique mug is a very good gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in excellent presentation condition.

The chased decoration is very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the mug are all very clear.


Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of Victorian silverware.
