Description


This fine antique Victorian English sterling silver christening mug has a tapering cylindrical form onto a seamless circular collet foot.


The body of this piece of antique silverware is embellished with impressive bright cut engraved scrolling leaf designs accented with floral garlands and sprays.


The decoration to the mug incorporates a central shaped scroll and leaf bordered cartouche displaying the fine and impressive contemporary engraved initials ‘RWG’ above the date ‘1890’.


The sterling silver Christening mug is fitted with a plain rounded C shaped handle.


This impressive example of Victorian silverware retains the original gilded interior.


This mug is fitted to the original hinged leatherette presentation box with satin and velvet lined interior, securing with a push fit catch.


The interior of the box bears the retailer’s mark ‘Hall & Co, Silversmiths, Manchester’ and the underside of the mug displays ‘Hall & Co, Kings St, Manchr’.

Condition


This antique christening mug is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

The box is also in excellent presentation condition.

The bright cut engraved decoration is all very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the mug are all very clear.


Reflections in photography may detract from the true representation of this piece of Victorian silverware.
