Description

This impressive antique sterling silver claret jug has a gourd shaped form onto a circular domed spreading foot.

This Victorian jug retains the original frosted finish to the exterior surface, which is further embellished with fine bright cut engraved fern leaf decoration.

The claret jug has a shaped rim with integrated spout and retains the original hinged hallmarked shaped cover.

This fine claret jug is fitted with an unusual cast and chased decorated silver handle modelled in the form of a mystical 'lizardesque' style creature, with scales, limbs and a scrolling tongue and tail.

Condition

This impressive Victorian claret jug is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent, presentation condition.

The bright cut engraved decoration to the body is very crisp, and the chased decoration to the handle very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the jug, and part hallmarks struck, as expected, to the interior of the cover are all very clear.
