A fine and impressive Victorian English sterling silver claret jug; part of our silverware collection

Description

This fine claret jug has a rounded shaped form.

The bulbous, swept knopped style body has a swept neck.

The claret jug has a circular swept foot.

The claret jug has ornate embossed decoration consisting of formal repetitive designs, scrolling borders and fruit and foliate panels.

The embossed decoration to the foot depicts flowing water, shells and mythical fish-like creatures in addition to the more formal repetitive design.

To either side of the main body there is a large oval plain vacant cartouche.

This jug is fitted with a fine cast figurehead style handle.

To the interior facing the spout there is a chased decorated mask.

The retailer's mark is engraved to the underside of the claret jug: 'Lamburts, Coventry St, London'.

Condition

This fine jug is an extremely good gauge of silver, very fine quality and in excellent condition.

The hallmarks struck to the exterior of the flared rim are clear.
