Description

These fine antique Victorian sterling silver coasters have a circular rounded shaped form.

The interior surface of each coaster is embellished with fine bright cut engraved scrolling leaf and floral decoration.

The shaped upper rim of each coaster is ornamented with an impressive applied scroll decorated border accented with four leaf designs.

The Victorian coasters retain the original turned wood bases, embellished with the original hallmarked silver button style cartouche to the centre of each.

Each cartouche is ornamented with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest depicting a boar’s head erased and erect, tusked.

These coasters are fitted with green baize to the underside.

The coasters were crafted by the renowned London silversmiths Edward, Edward junior, John & William Barnard.

Condition

These antique Victorian coasters are a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent presentation condition.

There is some crazing to the wood bases in keeping with age; this does not affect the integrity of each piece.

The applied decoration is very sharp and the bright cut engraved decoration is very crisp.

Full hallmarks to the surface of one coaster are worn; the nature of these coasters dictates the location of the hallmarks to the rim of the base. In many extant coasters, because of this, the hallmarks may become very worn and illegible.

The full hallmarks to the other coaster and part hallmarks to the button cartouches are clear.

These Victorian coasters have been priced accordingly.

Reflections in photography may detract from the true representation of these pieces of Victorian silverware.

Andrew sold these items at various London markets and antique fairs. Over time, and through selling at a range of venues, Andrew built up a large and diverse customer base from private buyers to national and international trade customers.
