A fine Victorian sterling silver communion flask: part of the diverse range of presentation pieces offered at AC Silver Description
This fine Victorian sterling silver communion flask has a plain moon shaped form.
This antique flask is embellished with a bright cut engraved Jesuit symbol which is the sunburst motif, incorporating a circular cartouche which displays the bright cut initials 'IHS'.
The flask has a hinged plain cover with hallmarks struck to the interior.
The cover is encircled with a decorated rim.
This flask retains the original push fit cork and silver stopper.
This flask has been tested and is water tight.
To ensure the flask remains water tight, the cork should be moist and therefore fully expanded to provide an effective seal.
There are two recommended methods to ensure the cork does not dry out and shrink:
Method One: Keep fluid in the flask at all times, and keep the flask on its side to ensure the cork remains wet.
Method Two: Fill the flask to the brim with fluid and close. Leave it like this over night, or 24 hours if possible, before use.
Condition
This antique communion flask is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent condition.
The flask is in presentation condition.
Full hallmarks struck to the surface and part hallmarks struck to the surface of the reverse are mostly clear, although the makers mark is slightly rubbed but legible.
Part hallmarks struck to the interior of the cover are very clear.
Reflections in photography may detract from the true representation of this item.
