Description
This impressive antique George V cut glass, sterling silver and guilloche enamel dressing table set consists of a scent bottle, a powder jar, two clothes brushes, two hair brushes, a mirror and a comb.
The scent bottle has an ovoid shaped cut glass foliate decorated body with a star cut decorated base.
The scent bottle is fitted with a glass stopper and a hallmarked hinged silver mount and cover.
The cover is ornamented with a blue guilloche enamel panel to the upper surface.
The powder jar has a compressed ovoid cut glass foliate decorated body ornamented with a star cut decorated base.
The powder jar is fitted with a circular hallmarked sterling silver push fit cover ornamented with blue guilloche enamel.
The powder jar holds a circular shaped powder puff.
The antique hand mirror has a circular form with a sterling silver frame and a bevelled glass fitting.
The two clothes brushes have an elongated oval shaped form, with a sterling silver hallmarked handle.
The two hair brushes have an oval shaped head with a tapering sterling silver hallmarked handle
The bristles of each brush are made from authentic horse hair.
The comb has a trapezium shaped hallmarked sterling silver handle.
The comb is fitted with fine tortoiseshell teeth to one portion, and wider tortoiseshell teeth to the opposing portion.
All the pieces of this fine dressing table set are ornamented with blue guilloche enamel to the reverse.
This impressive George V dressing table set is fitted to the original hinged leatherette box with a satin and velvet lined interior.
This antique cut glass, sterling silver and guilloche enamel dressing table set is a very good example of its type.
Condition
This antique dressing table set is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent condition in keeping with age.
This set has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition.
There is a band of staining to the outer rim of the hand mirror.
The horse hair bristles to the brushes are in very good condition.
The tortoiseshell comb has two teeth missing.
There is a small chip to the rim of one clothes brush (please see image 10).
The box is in very good condition in keeping with age, however the buttons to secure the cover are missing.
Despite these small deficient areas, this set is a very good example of its type, and in excellent condition overall, in keeping with age.
Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each piece are all very clear.
Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these pieces of George V silverware.
