A very fine antique Victorian sterling silver, cut glass and mahogany ink stand; part of our silverware collection

Description

This very fine Victorian sterling silver inkstand has been realistically modelled in the form of a recumbent stag on top of a rocky crag.

The stag and rocky crag are embellished with fine embossed and chased decoration.

Two circular wells to either side of the stag are fitted with the original cut glass and silver mounted ink pots.

Each ink pot retains the original hallmarked silver cover modelled in the form of a grassy knoll surmounted with a realistically modelled fern finial.

The silver collars encircling the rim of each inkpot are fully hallmarked.

A fine carved and shaped mahogany base incorporating a pen well at the front completes the inkstand.

The underside of the base is fitted with green baize.

Condition

This fine Victorian inkstand is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent condition.

The mahogany base is also fine quality and in excellent condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the posterior surface of the stand, ink pot collar and covers are all very clear.

Reflections in photography may detract from the true representation of these items.
