Description

The pieces of this fine and impressive antique sterling silver four piece tea service have a circular compressed form on to a circular spreading foot.

The teapot, tea kettle, cream jug and sugar bowl are all ornamented with a band of bound reed applied decoration accented with fruiting leaf motifs.

The rim of each piece is embellished with gadroon decoration.

The teapot and kettle are both fitted with hinged hallmarked, subtly domed covers.

The covers retain the original pear wood and silver finials.

The impressive bifurcating chased snake decorated tea kettle handle has a central shaped pear wood portion.

The handle terminals are ornamented with snake head decoration.

The teapot is fitted with a carved C shaped pear wood handle with noteworthy snake head decorated silver terminals.

The teapot and kettle are both fitted with a trunkated spout.

The cream jug and sugar bowl are also fitted with noteworthy chased decorated looping snake handles.

The tea kettle is supported on a circular three legged stand which retains the original detachable spirit burner.

The bifurcating shaped legs are ornamented with acanthus leaf decoration and impressive scrolling, shell decorated feet.

The stand also retains the original hallmarked pegs and link chains.

Condition

The pieces of this George V tea service are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The teapot, tea kettle, cream jug and sugar bowl have all been professionally polished and are in presentation condition.

The decoration to each piece is very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each piece are all very clear.
