A magnificent fine and impressive antique William IV English sterling silver four piece tea and coffee service / set; part of our silver teaware collection

Description

This impressive antique William IV sterling silver four piece tea and coffee service has a compressed baluster form onto a domed spreading foot.

The body of the tea pot, coffee pot, cream jug and sugar bowl is embellished with fine chased leaf decoration accented with floral motifs.

To one side of each piece a small shaped cartouche displays the bright cut engraved crest of boar's head above the motto 'Reddens Laudes Domino': the cartouche to the other side remains vacant.

The teapot and coffee pot are fitted with hinged domed covers surmounted by impressive hallmarked sterling silver finial realistically modelled in the form of a wild rose.

Each piece features a flared shaped rim and is fitted with an impressive opposing scroll handle heavily ornamented with fine chased leaf decoration.

The teapot and coffee pot spouts are also heavily ornamented with leaf and flower chased decoration.

The teapot, coffee pot, cream jug and sugar bowl all stand on a fluted decorated domed spreading foot with a shaped border.

Condition

The pieces of this antique four piece tea and coffee service are a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent presentation condition.

Full hallmarks are struck to the surface of the cream jug and sugar bowl and to the underside of the teapot and coffee pot.

hallmarks are struck to the cover, handle and finial of the teapot and coffee pot.

Hallmarks struck to the teapot and coffee pot are very clear, those to the sugar bowl and cream jug have not been struck as clearly, but remain legible.
