Price    £1,295.00

A fine and unusual antique Victorian English sterling silver gilt and glass combination scent bottle / vinaigrette / frame / locket: an addition to our silverware collection

Description

This unusual antique Victorian sterling silver gilt and glass combination scent bottle / vinaigrette / frame has a shaped scroll form.

The conjoined compartments which 'share' a hinged silver gilt base, have the same shaped form crafted in glass with silver gilt mounts and covers.

When the hinge is extended the compartments sit vertically side by side.

The glass bodies of this antique combination scent / vinaigrette / frame may be used as scent bottles.

The base of one compartment retains the original hallmarked hinged pierced decorated silver gilt grille and vinaigrette.

The fellow compartment has a push fit silver gilt cover which opens to reveal a circular frame designed to hold a personal photograph.

The silver gilt mounts of this versatile scent bottle are embellished with bright cut engraved bands of palmette and dart decoration.

Each cover displays the bright cut engraved monogram 'EG' encircled by a bright cut engraved scrolling wave border.

The hinged silver gilt bases are ornamented with subtle fluted decoration.

Condition

This unusual Victorian combination scent bottle / vinaigrette / frame is very good quality.

The silver gilt mounts and covers are a very good gauge of silver.

The bright cut engraved decoration is very crisp.

This item is in excellent presentation condition, showing signs of wear to each cover, as to be expected, and in keeping with age.

Full hallmarks to the interior of the vinaigrette, the grille and the fellow base are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detact from this fine example of Victorian silverware.
