Description

This exceptional antique Edwardian cast sterling silver sugar box has been realistically modelled in the form of a striated heron*.

This rare large sugar box is embellished with details reproducing the fine definition of the heron's plumage and anatomical features.

This impressive sterling silver sugar box retains the original, hallmarked push fit cover/head.

The cover/head retains the original bead eyes.

The hallmarks struck to the sleeve of the cover and surface of the tail feathers include:

Importer's mark: B.M.L (Boaz Moses Landeck)

Import mark: Chester, England

Silver quality/purity mark: .925 (sterling, 925/1000)

Import date mark: K (1910)

Pseudo marks: Untraced**

This exceptional antique silver sugar box is a rare model for such a piece and is highly desirable.

* The bird has been determined as a striated heron due to the characteristics of the body and distinguishable features.

** The Hanau pseudo-marks to the sleeve of the cover are unidentified; pseudo-marks were not registered with an administrative office and no records exist to check them against determining an attributed identification to be a comparison or probability.
